Entry requirements

A second class honours degree or above in a subject that is cognate within the built environment fields. Examples include Town Planning, Environmental Studies, Architecture, Landscape Design, Urban Studies, Geography and Building Surveying. Part-time students will benefit from being in relevant employment. Full-time students will benefit from recent experience in a relevant field of study or work. Those with the required degree classification in a non-cognate subject may be requested to follow some guided reading prior to commencing the course.

Course content

Our Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) accredited course will provide you with comprehensive training and practical experience for a rewarding career in urban and suburban planning.

Study with us and you’ll gain the all-round professional skills required to shape policy and strategy, plan sustainably, negotiate or manage the planning process, and balance competing priorities.

We explore the practical, from the technical and environmental aspects of construction to the many legal, political, social, aesthetic and economic issues you’ll consider, and reconcile, as a planner.

The MSc Town Planning is accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute and provides two years' free student membership of the institute alongside a route to full Chartered status of the Institute attainable two years after graduation. This paves your way to a successful career in Town Planning.

Information for international students

If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 6.5 ( Academic level) or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University.
