About Bangor Law School
Bangor Law School is an innovative and expanding School. Our programmes have been carefully designed to evolve with the ever-changing legal landscape, and to equip students with the legal knowledge and skills demanded by an increasingly globalised industry. Students from several countries worldwide choose Bangor Law School for its teaching expertise and diverse, multi-cultural environment.
Our small class sizes foster a lively learning environment and encourage students to engage fully with the teaching experience, with students and lecturers developing a close and supportive relationship. The academic experience is further enriched by a range of extracurricular activities which have been designed to help students enhance their career prospects.
Careers and employability
Our postgraduate programmes prepare students for careers with law firms, international organisations, local government, teaching and research. The academic experience offered by the School is enriched by a programme of activities designed to encourage students to accelerate their career development and to cultivate skills that will give them an edge in the increasingly competitive job market. These include mooting, an annual Law Careers Fair and a work experience programme.
Links with industry / work placements
Through the School's continuous work in developing contacts with legal practitioners across the UK, Bangor Law School is able to offer students an impressive programme of work placements. Placements enable students to make informed decisions about what to do after graduation, be it to continue with their legal studies, pursue research in a particular field or choose a career path; and they offer a unique opportunity to experience the various careers open to Law graduates, such as solicitors' practices, the Bar and local government.
The School also uses its professional links to arrange a regular programme of careers talks, and to conduct the annual Law Careers Fair.
Areas of expertise
Our suite of LLM programmes reflect staff expertise and commitment to academic excellence. We offer degrees in areas ranging from International Law to Law & Banking, most of which offer a January intake as well as the traditional September start date. For those who wish to pursue a research degree, we provide excellent facilities and expert supervision in a range of legal areas.
Leaders in research
Bangor Law School academic staff are research-active. Many staff in the School have also been previously employed as professionals within the legal sector in roles such as judge, solicitor and magistrate. This means that those teaching are at the cutting-edge of knowledge in their subject areas, bringing teaching to life and providing students with the most up-to-date thinking in class.
Coupled with this rich combination of backgrounds, staff members’ research reflects varied interests and expertise in fields such as Human Rights Law, International Law, Corporate Finance Law, Maritime Law, Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Company Law, Administrative Law, Child and Family Law, and Intellectual Property Law.
Bangor is a unique place to study – beautiful, compact, affordable, safe and friendly.
