Performing Shakespeare

Bath Spa University · School of Music and the Performing Arts

Entry requirements

We’re looking for individuals with a flair for performance and a clear passion for Shakespeare’s work. Training is hands-on, so you’ll need energy, drive and the motivation to transform your ideas into productions.

You’ll need a good first degree in an area relating to performance. We also accept individuals with relevant professional experience.

Months of entry

Course content

  • Examine Shakespeare's theatre through a variety of workshops, masterclasses, off-site visits, production work and more.
  • Take advantage of our industry links, opportunities to network and collaborate, field trips and intensive training opportunities.
  • Opportunities for additional training include a two-week residency at Shakespeare's Globe and an accreditation in combat.

If you’re interested in the performance of Shakespeare and want to study original and contemporary professional practices, this MA is for you. You’ll take part in actor training and research seminars, leading to presentations and performances using our indoor and outdoor theatres on campus and in Bath city centre.

You’ll develop production and networking skills, building a theatre company and a professional profile. We’ll give you opportunities to take your work to external venues as part of your studies. With opportunities to work with BA Acting and Drama students, you’ll gain experience as an actor who can lead workshops and as a researcher who can work in productions.
