Course content

On this MSc Organizational Governance and Sustainability you will study the complex and changing relationships between business corporations, their stakeholders (shareholders, employees, customers, suppliers) and the societies in which they operate.

Join us as we examine how the economic and financial aspects of organisational governance relationships have long been of concern to those in the business and investment communities. In recent years the social, political and moral aspects of these relationships have also become a major public concern, as has the sustainability of these organisations and the societies and environments within which they operate and are embedded.

This course allows you to engage critically with the policy aspects of organisational governance and sustainability. It is ideal if you are keen to be professionally involved in:

  • the direction and regulation of private, public and third sector organisations
  • the management or trusteeship of pension and other investment funds
  • the field of organisational, social and environmental sustainability.

The MSc Organizational Governance and Sustainability combines coursework and independent research leading to a dissertation in which you will be able to demonstrate your originality and creativity and follow your interests in this area.

  • Our MSc Organizational Governance and Sustainability is international in scope, recognising both the wide variety of cultures and corporate governance systems within which businesses operate worldwide and the increasing globalisation of organisations and finance.
  • The course builds upon the School of Business’s research strength in organisational governance and ethics, corporate responsibility and sustainability and organisational psychology. This is supported by Birkbeck’s Responsible Business Centre and our Centre for Political Economy and Institutional Studies.
  • We combine an interdisciplinary approach with in-depth research training in business and organisational psychology. The course also offers you a strong foundation for PhD research in the area.
  • The course benefits from the involvement of a number of leading figures in the field including members of national and international committees on organisational governance, shareholder activists and NGO representatives.
