Entry requirements
Our standard postgraduate entry requirement is a second-class honours degree (2:2 or above).
Managers and consultants without a degree but with experience in a wide range of public and private sector organisations may be able to benefit substantially from the course, and their applications are welcomed.
Applications are reviewed on their individual merits and your professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience will be taken into consideration positively. We actively support and encourage applications from mature learners.

Why choose this course?
- This course covers strategic management, change practice, knowledge governance, innovation and behavioural science, teaching you the tools and techniques used by top consultancies and change professionals.
- It offers you hands-on experience of delivering a live consultancy project with a global consulting organisation through a 12-week project in partnership with PA Consulting and working with real clients, such as Defra and the RSPCA.
- You will also work alongside active practitioners from the Change Management Institute to tackle current ‘thorny topics’ faced by the change practice.

This unique course blends theoretical knowledge with applied skills to empower you to drive meaningful change. You will learn about key areas of the field, including:
- consultancy and change frameworks
- tools for strategic analysis
- approaches to decision making
- models of knowledge management and organisational learning.
You will also gain valuable practical skills in client engagement, problem solving, presentation, collaboration and project management.
How you will learn
This course is available to study full- or part-time and follows an evening timetable. Some modules may also offer classes online as well as on campus.
It is taught through a blend of theory and practice. You will work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment that emphasises teamwork, critical reflection and client-focused delivery.
You will also be able to further develop your practical skills in The Consultancy Challenge, a live client project with feedback and mentorship from PA Consulting, or hone your research and investigative skills by completing an individual research project.

Information for international students
If English is not your first language or you have not previously studied in English, the requirement for this course is the equivalent of an International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic Test) score of 6.5, with not less than 6.0 in each of the sub-tests.
If you don't meet the minimum IELTS requirement, we offer pre-sessional English courses, foundation programmes and language support services to help you improve your English language skills and get your place at Birkbeck.
