The MSc Integrative Psychotherapy at Birmingham Newman University is a part-time, four-year course designed for those ready to train as UKCP-registered psychotherapists. Whether you are continuing from previous counselling experience or starting a new direction, the course offers a clear and supportive route into the profession. You will join a learning community that values personal growth, academic integrity and reflective development, helping you build confidence and clarity in your therapeutic practice.

What does this course cover

You will explore a range of therapeutic approaches, including gestalt, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural models, all integrated through a relational lens. The curriculum also covers human development, mental health, ethics and research, encouraging you to think critically and reflectively. From your second year, you will begin a supervised clinical placement, completing at least 450 hours of client work alongside regular supervision and personal therapy. Learning is delivered through in-person teaching, independent study and clinical practice, designed to support your development at every stage.
