About Bishop Grosseteste University

For over 150 years Bishop Grosseteste University has been an integral part of Lincoln. Deep in the heart of this historic city, just a few minutes walk from the Castle and Cathedral, it has evolved from humble roots as an Anglican teacher training college into a TEF Gold rated institution and the top university in the East Midlands for widening participation.

Beginning life in 1862 as an Anglican teacher training college for women it was renamed Bishop Grosseteste College, in honour of Robert Grosseteste the thirteenth century scientist, philosopher, educator, and Bishop of Lincoln, to mark its centenary in 1962. Over the years it has continued to grow and now, as Bishop Grosseteste University, it educates over 2,000 students in subjects ranging from drama to psychology; foundation degree to PhD, and much more in between.

The family feel is exactly why people should study at BGU. BGU becomes your home regardless of your age or background. In fact, I felt such a connection with the University on my first visit that I went to five Open Days before I started my BA. I wanted to be part of BGU straight away and I know it will stay a part of me forever.

Though much at Bishop Grosseteste University has changed in the course of this progression, its commitment to providing first-class education and turning out graduates of the highest calibre who go out into the world to change people’s lives for the better has never wavered.

From their top-of-the-line teaching and study facilities, to their on-site cinema, they’ve worked hard to ensure their beautiful and peaceful campus has everything a student could need to succeed. More importantly, at the heart of all these services, they boast a team of educators and staff dedicated to advancement of their students through academic, professional and emotional support whenever and wherever it might be required.

BGU was always my first choice when considering universities. Everything about it is beautiful, from the leafy green trees to red brick buildings - and everything on the inside is just as amazing.
