Course content

A Pre-Master's course is an excellent route for international students to take before going on to study a full Master's programme in their specific subject area. This programme offers two routes; one to cater for students wanting to take a Master’s in the area of Business and one for those wishing to undergo a Master’s in the Arts and Humanities.

Overall, the programme will equip you for the step up to post-graduate study both in terms of language levels and the other key areas which are vital for success at this level of study in a U.K. university.

The Centre for Language and Linguistics has a wealth of experience in teaching overseas students on a range of related courses to this Pre-masters including our PhD pre-sessional programme, Summer Pre-sessional programme and the International Foundation year.

In addition to this the historic city of Canterbury provides the perfect environment for study and travel to London and the rest of the U.K. as well as to continental Europe.

The course is for anyone whose first language is not English and who needs to improve their language skills and academic skills before going on to undertake post-graduate study. It is particularly useful for those who have not been able to attain the IELTS band to go directly into post-graduate study as well as those who feel they need to they some prior preparation (for whatever reason) before starting a full Masters programme.

Moreover, it is invaluable for those who have got a particular career in mind or who are already in a profession but wish to return to education for a period of time before continuing their career with more qualifications and with an international study experience to back them up. Finally, the programme can be used as a stepping-stone for anyone who wants to pursue an academic career in the U.K. or in an environment where the English language is used predominantly.
