About De Montfort University

Our exciting and supportive learning environment transforms and inspires our students and DMU’s engaging teaching, ground-breaking research and global travel programmes build the skills, experience and attitude that let you achieve whatever you choose.

The majority of DMU’s research activity is world-leading or internationally excellent and our belief that universities should serve the public good, supporting and empowering the community, informs the work of our 50 specialist research groups and institutes.

Our campus is in the centre of Leicester, a city of champions and one of the UK’s most high-profile, forward-looking multicultural places to live and work in. Leicester is confident and colourful – big enough to offer new experiences, yet small enough to quickly call home.

Future career

DMU works with leading national and international employers to develop and deliver postgraduate courses that equip our students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to succeed in today’s competitive job market.

Our postgraduates go on to achieve remarkable things. They forge successful careers at world-leading companies, shape the world at voluntary and governmental organisations, and push the boundaries of knowledge at universities. They work for organisations as diverse as Adidas, the International Monetary Fund, the BBC, the International Olympic Committee, the National Health Service in the UK, Shell, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Jaguar Land Rover, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, GSK, HSBC, Rolls-Royce, and Thomson Reuters, as well as finding success away from big-name brands.

Some 96.8 per cent of our most recent postgraduates were employed or in further education within six months of completing their course. DMU also embraces the entrepreneurial spirit - The Economist magazine highlighted how DMU graduates had helped Leicester match London for the numbers of fastest-growing businesses in the UK.

DMU has spent £136 million transforming the campus into one of the finest higher education complexes in the country - the modern, inspiring environment that our students deserve.

At DMU, we continually invest in our facilities, working with industry leaders to ensure our equipment and workspaces replicate those used by professionals. We are ahead of the game with emerging technologies, ensuring today’s students benefit from the latest techniques and ways of thinking to become the industry leaders of tomorrow.

You’ll also have reduced-price access to our £8million Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre. With a 25m swimming pool, poolside sauna, climbing wall, eight-court sports hall, fitness suite, free-weights area and dance studio, you can work up a sweat in an airy, modern environment.

Confident and colourful, Leicester is England’s 10th largest city; the 2015 Good Growth for Cities Index ranks Leicester in the top 10 of UK cities, highest in the Midlands and ahead of London. It grabbed headlines around the world when our Official Education Partners, Leicester City, took the Premier League title. A year earlier, the remains of King Richard III were reinterred in the cathedral, a short walk from the DMU campus.

Leicester boasts a vibrant Cultural Quarter, and for shoppers the £350million Highcross shopping centre plus an eclectic collection of independent shops and boutiques.

Located at the centre of England, Leicester is well served by excellent transport links. High-speed trains connect to London in an hour, while major cities like Nottingham and Birmingham are close by. Leicester is less than half an hour from East Midlands International Airport, and Birmingham, Luton and London Stansted airports are all within easy reach.

There are also excellent transport links with London Heathrow and London Gatwick airports.

student accommodation

Whatever your accommodation needs, DMU is here to support your search for the perfect place to live while studying. SULETS, a lettings charity jointly owned and run by the students’ unions of DMU and University of Leicester, takes the worry and hassle out of finding accommodation and is the only lettings agency recommended by DMU. It is also the safe option as the properties are inspected to ensure quality and compliance with safety, security and furnishing standards.

Through the SULETS website, you can search for properties, submit a tenancy application, pay your rent, and even log maintenance issues. There is also a SULETS office in the Campus Centre for in-person support.

English language support

Our dedicated Centre for English Language Learning offers a range of courses designed to help you improve your language skills, before and during your studies. The centre is accredited by the British Council for the quality of its teaching.
