Course content

Are you curious about how technology is changing the world around us? The Internet of Things is revolutionising the way we live. In this programme, you’ll explore how smart devices and artificial intelligence come together to create new opportunities.

The Evolution of Connectivity: From IoT to AIoT

The Internet of Things has sparked a revolution. We now live in a world where everyday objects, machines, and entire cities are not just connected, they are collaborating, learning, and making decisions that drive real change. With the fusion of mobile technology and artificial intelligence, the rise of AIoT is unstoppable. This is the future, unfolding before our eyes: self-driving vehicles, intelligent energy systems, personalised healthcare, and cities that think for themselves. These breakthroughs are not just possibilities; they are the new reality, redefining how we live and work.

Ireland stands at the forefront of global IoT innovation, championing bold ideas and solutions that are transforming the world. As industries worldwide adopt intelligent, decentralised systems, the demand for visionary talent is rising. This is your chance to be part of the next generation of professionals who will design, manage, and protect the complex systems of the future.

To help you thrive in this fast-changing tech landscape, the MCTY programme offers two industry-focused majors, giving you the flexibility to shape your studies around your interests and career goals:

Major in IoT Systems

If you’re eager to master the full stack of interconnected environments, this major is your pathway. You’ll explore the architecture, development, and deployment of large-scale IoT ecosystems, building deep expertise and practical skills that set you apart.

  • Scalable IoT system design and integration, from connected embedded systems to cloud integration.
  • Data analytics and cloud-to-edge orchestration.
  • Collaborative “Smart” infrastructure management.
  • The implementation of AIoT at scale for business and industrial transformation.

Major in Edge & IoT Security (New Major)

This interdisciplinary and highly specialised major empowers you to tackle the critical challenges facing next-generation infrastructure. As the Edge becomes the new frontier for data processing, you’ll learn how to secure these vital points and play a key role in protecting tomorrow’s connected world.

  • Secure Embedded Systems: Hardening the hardware and software at the device level.
  • Wireless & Mobile Vulnerabilities: Identifying and mitigating risks in 5G and beyond.
  • Physical-Layer Considerations: Protecting the tangible components of the network.
  • Network Security Mechanisms: Advanced protocols for ensuring data integrity and privacy across decentralised nodes.
