Entry requirements

2.1 Hons (or non-UK equivalent) in with backgrounds in humanities and social sciences, for example Politics, International Relations, History, Peace Studies, Area and Cultural Studies, Law, Sociology, Anthropology, Criminology, Human Geography, Computing Science, Literature, Philosophy, Organizational Studies, Social and Public Policy, Global Studies, Psychology, Media Studies and Journalism, Modern Languages, Economics, Environmental Studies, Management or Business.

Applicants with backgrounds in Computer Science, Engineering or Philosophy will only be eligible for Pathway A (Dublin City University).

Applicants who have indicated a preference for Pathway B (Trento) will also be required to demonstrate proficiency in another language other than English or Italian at level B2 or above. Students need to prove skills for a second language, not including Italian, at Level B2 or above through one of following:

a secondary school diploma acquired in any third language other than English/Italian, or a degree certificate (undergraduate or masters) acquired in any third language or a certificate from a recognised testing institution that makes clear reference to CEFR level B2.

A 2.2 Honours degree in one of the degree subjects listed above, may also be considered if supported by directly relevant work experience.

Applicants should indicate their pathway preference on the Scholarship or Self-funder Application form. We intend to run pathway C as advertised subject to final accreditation.

Course content

On the International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies you will examine a broad range of contemporary security challenges, such as terrorism, civil war and intra-state conflict, mass migration, energy security, cyber security, and transnational crime.

The International Master in Security, Intelligence and Strategic Studies (IMSISS) is a 24 month Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) developed by a consortium of four European universities –University of Glasgow (UK), Dublin City University (Ireland), Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic) and University of Trento (Italy).

Students on this degree programme will examine a broad range of contemporary security challenges, such as terrorism, civil war and conflict, mass migration, energy supply security, cyber security and new technologies, and transnational and serious organised crime. Students will also explore the intelligence and strategic approaches used by governmental and non-governmental actors to combat these threats.

The degree adopts a unique approach to the study of security by combining theoretical, applied and empirical knowledge and skill sets. Students will have the opportunity to meet with and work alongside a range of academics and researchers from international partner universities and think tanks from around the world, as well as practitioner experts from governmental and industry security and defence sectors.
