Course content

Develop advanced economic expertise and decision-making skills vital for addressing contemporary economic challenges. Explore, evaluate and employ advanced economic models on our Economics MA to inform decision-making by all stakeholders, including private businesses and policy-makers.

What are the economic motives and behaviours of everyone from individuals and households through to international organisations and governments? How will you as an economist deliver better economic outcomes for all market participants? Our Economics MA has been curated to provide you with an advanced skillset in key areas of applied economics to facilitate your development as a successful economist who can contend with the economic challenges we face in an ever-changing world.

Our focused structure will give you the space to master the monetary rationale of economic interactions so you can become confident in applied economic theory and applied research skills, with a clear policy focus. We’ve embedded employability into the programme with opportunities to engage with local employers through our consultancy and placement projects and develop relationships with professional bodies such as the Government Economic Service via guest lectures and research projects.

You will graduate as an extremely employable economist with analytical skills which are highly sought after by government departments and the private sector. You will develop expertise in areas including advanced cost benefit analysis, the design of policy briefings, The Green Book, monetisation of non-marketed goods and the calculation of carbon footprints. Plus, these skills are enhanced through the programme's optional and dissertation modules which are designed to deliver high quality employability skills.
