Entry requirements

  • An honours degree (2:2 or above) in a STEM/Computing related subject OR
  • An honours degree (2:2 or above) in an unrelated subject area plus previous employment or substantial work experience in the industry – applicants may be asked to discuss their employment/work experience with the programme leader OR
  • Bachelor’s degree without honours (studied for 3 years) in STEM or computing related subject plus at least 1 year of professional experience in the industry. OR
  • Successful completion of a pre-masters programme from an institution acceptable to the University (will be assessed on a case by case basis)

English Language requirement for sponsored students:

  • Minimum English Language entry requirements: IELTS Academic 6.0 (with no less than 5.5 in any component) or equivalent

As the field of computing rapidly advances, organisations in every sector increasingly require expertise in harnessing the latest technology.

Our MSc in Computer Science provides the necessary expertise to develop specialist skills for you to enjoy a successful computing career.

You can choose to study from five study routes:

Full-time, 1 year (September start)

Full-time, 2 years with Professional Placement (September start)

Part-time, 2 years (September start)

Full-time, 16 months (January start, includes a summer break)

Full-time, 28 months with Professional Placement (January start, includes a summer break)

As technology continues to transform industries, the demand for skilled computer science professionals is on the rise. This programme welcomes graduates from all backgrounds with a strong interest in the subject, offering an exciting opportunity to build expertise and launch a career in the fast-paced and ever-evolving world of computing.

Throughout this degree, you’ll acquire concepts, techniques, and technologies that will prepare you to investigate real-world problems and develop systems or solutions to address them. These skills are specifically designed for the modern professional landscape of computing.

Access to resources such as laboratories, research facilities, the Library and academic databases will facilitate your learning, research and exploration. You’ll have the freedom to shape your studies by designing and executing your own independent Master’s project, while receiving one-to-one support from your supervisor.

Practical case studies will be explored throughout the course, allowing you to apply your learning to realistic, industry-relevant scenarios and deepen your understanding of key concepts.

The full-time Professional Placement option offers you the chance to enhance your qualification by spending a year completing an industry placement or engaging with a research project at the University. Although we cannot guarantee placements for students, we will provide you with practical support and advice on how to find and secure your placement.

By the time you graduate, you'll have developed both a strong thoretical foundation and practical skills in computer science. You'll be equipped to apply your knowledge confidently and make meanginful contributions within the field.
