Course content

An opportunity to develop and enhance your creative music management skills through advanced study and professional development.

This course is designed for music industry professionals and music or music business graduates, who want to advance and expand their practical music management skills to progress their careers. You examine strategies for effective management, the latest industry practices and ideas, while developing your research skills before testing these out with independent research into your chosen area of the music business.
You are provided with the foundational framework for the programme by combining professional development analysis and reflection with postgraduate skills in investigation and use of evidence as well as reviewing key concepts in the creative subjects and industries. These concepts include financial and economic perspectives as well as philosophical and critical perspectives. Through these modules, you examine practice research alongside postgraduate students from other disciplines.
The course is studied over 12-months and has a three-strand approach.
In the first strand, you examine approaches to investigation, the use of evidence to support those approaches and the conceptual frameworks that underpin creative and management practice. This strand includes professional development support and analysis.
In the second strand, you explore and discuss approaches and strategies in creative and music management. In the final strand, you apply your understanding through placements and work-based projects.
The programme culminates in a practice or theory-based dissertation which brings these strands together in a final project or investigation.

Building on the experience of our successful Music and Management degrees, this course combines practical vocational training, contact with leading industry figures and postgraduate research perspectives to create a distinctive and effective approach and ethos.
