London South Bank University (LSBU) is a university located in the heart of London. LSBU offers industry-relevant degrees that mean you can become the best version of yourself, you will gain valuable hands on experience which will prepare you for the workplace before you graduate.

LSBU has served South London and beyond for over 125 years with a consistent commitment to providing vocationally-relevant, accredited and professionally recognised education. The university has strong links with employers and courses are applied, accredited and offer placement opportunities.

The university is made up of eight schools offering both research and taught postgraduate courses:

Taught masters courses

At LSBU you can fast-forward your career. Research Degrees

At LSBU, you can become an expert in your subject with transferable skills including self-discipline, analytical and critical thinking. Plus, you'll have the ability to turn criticism of others' work into something constructive of your own.

LSBU offers the following postgraduate research degrees through our London Doctoral Academy. These degrees are designed to help you become an innovative and critical expert in your chosen field:

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

As well as addressing the challenging issues faced by society today, the University’s applied research seeks to provide solutions to the business world and beyond.

London South Bank University has 15 research centres and 37 research groups, each delivering a wide range of applied research, often with commercial partners. For example – the University’s pioneering research in foot and ankle biometrics helped develop products for global brand Fitflop, while research on cooling the London Underground has been incorporated into a £500m upgrade of the tube system. Financial Support and scholarships

Considerable financial help is available for well-qualified and ambitious postgraduate (and international) students through scholarships, bursaries, and other financial support.

UK Scholarships:

LSBU Loyalty Award

Eligible undergraduate students and alumni receive a discount on their taught postgraduate tuition fees when they enrol on one of our postgraduate taught courses starting this year.

Aziz Foundation Scholarship

If you're a British Muslim who is dedicated to bringing positive change to society, you could be eligible for the Aziz Foundation Scholarship Programme which offers 100% tuition fee Masters scholarships. The aim of this scholarship is to support emerging leaders who have a high level of commitment to the community as well as the aspirations to lead and inspire in their respective field.

Sports Scholarships

Sports scholarships are run by LSBU Active's Academy of Sport to support talented sportsmen and women balance their sporting, academic and personal lives.

The Scholarship Hub

The Scholarship Hub is a social enterprise committed to reinvesting a percentage of their profits back in to developing new scholarships. As a result, they have introduced the Money for Books Scholarship, open to all UK students both undergraduate and postgraduate.

The Centre for Social Justice and Global Responsibility at London South Bank University (LSBU) offers a vibrant and dynamic research environment. The London Doctoral Academy is the new home for the University’s postgraduate research students – and any funded studentships will be listed here. The Academy supports and develops professional researchers who are driven to make a difference in the world, whether that’s by influencing government policy or changing the way industries work.

Student support

LSBU gives you the support and flexibility you need to succeed. Studying has to be a part of real life – you may need to earn some extra income, or having some trouble settling into your first year.

The Student Life Centre is there to make your experience as easy as possible. Many factors can have an impact on students’ success, which is why we do everything we can to make sure you get the support you need.

To LSBU, your physical and emotional wellbeing are equally important. Our team of mental health professionals provide a confidential space to talk about whatever’s going on, advise you on what might help, and collaborate with you to develop a holistic support plan.

The Skills for learning team provides workshops, drop-in sessions and one-to-one appointments to offer development of academic and professional skills.

We also provide a Disability & Dyslexia Support (DDS) service which is dedicated for students who have a long term condition.

Our Southwark campus is in easy walking distance of underground and leading overground stations. We are only 20 minutes away from the Thames.

Campus and Facilities

LSBU’s Southwark campus is in Elephant & Castle, without a doubt one of the most vibrant areas in London. There’s so much to see and do within a short walk of the campus. Being here means you’ll have sights, attractions and nightlife on your doorstep.

LSBU’s Hub which opened in 2022, recently won the Higher Education and Campus award at the Architects’ Journal retrofit awards. Find out more about The Hub.

The building includes:

  • new workspaces, amenities and technology
  • new state-of-the-art library and learning resource
  • improved Academy of Sport facilities, with a fully equipped gymnasium
  • new open access computer rooms
  • private rooms for group work and study
  • additional lecture capacity and new and improved places to eat

The Skills for Learning Centre offers students a range of learning and study facilities through interactive workshops, one-to-one tutorials and drop-in sessions delivered by experienced learning developers. In addition we provide specialist study materials through our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle site and libraries on our Southwark and Havering campuses provide our students with access to a wide range of books, journal articles and other specialist materials.
