Northumbria is ranked 9th in the UK for the number of graduates in professional or managerial roles and 97% of postgraduates are in work or further study within six months of graduation (DLHE 2014/15). Innovative and entrepreneurial, we are also ranked third in the UK for graduate business start-ups (based on estimated turnover and number of jobs created, HEBCIS 2014/15).

In fact, Northumbria’s University Library was ranked joint 1st in the UK by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2015/2016

Over the last ten years we’ve invested £200 million in facilities in our City and Coach Lane Campuses and we are now investing a further £52 million in our City Campus.

But it’s not just physical facilities that we invest in. We put your learning at the heart of everything we do and we use the latest digital technology to ensure that whether you are a full-time, part-time or distance learner you will have the same excellent learning experience.

Fees and funding

We recognise that by studying for a postgraduate qualification you are making an investment in your future, so we offer a range of support packages to ease the burden.

These include alumni discounts, academic scholarships and an interest free payment plan for fees. You may also be eligible for the government’s £10,000 postgraduate loan. For more information on fees and funding see our website.


Northumbria University in based in central Newcastle, a city which is regularly voted one of the UK’s best cities for students. It is also offers excellent value for money, and was ranked the third most cost-effective UK city for students in the Royal Bank of Scotland Student Living Index 2016.

One in every six people in Newcastle is a student and the city has a vibrant, exciting and cosmopolitan feel. Our accommodation is close to campus and has been ranked 2nd best in the UK (National Student Housing Awards 2016). We offer a range of accommodation options for postgraduate students from en-suite top-of-the-range residences to traditional student housing.

Our accommodation application system lets you select the exact residence, flat and room you’ll live in, so you can choose to share with other postgraduate students. We also offer tenancies that suit postgraduate course patterns – such as single semesters – to give you greater flexibility.

English language support

A university recognised English language test such as IELTS, Pearson or equivalent is an entry requirement to postgraduate courses for non-native speakers. English language requirements range from IELTS 6.0-7.5 depending on the course.

Don’t worry if you don’t yet meet the requirements, we offer a range of pre-sessional English and Study Skills programmes throughout the year and we also run a large Summer School.


How to apply

You can apply for most postgraduate courses direct to the University via our online application form.

While most of our courses do not set an exact deadline you are advised to apply early to secure your place. Overseas students should submit applications to us by no later than 31 July for September entry or 1 December for courses that commence in January.
