Course content
This Master’s programme develops students’ skills in several fields, such as remote sensing, GIS, methods for modelling, explorative data analysis and visualisation with a focus on Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences.
You will use the latest satellite data from Europe and NASA, program AI models to understand processes and trends and develop spatial analyzes to map changes and risks. We explore real-world applications of remote sensing and GIS through participation in research, internships and outreach activities.
Cartography and the visualisation of maps has developed over hundreds or thousands of years. Today the focus lies on the data behind maps. Results from the analysis of geographical data are central to international treaties and policy including those related to environment and climate.
New technologies including AI and Big Data have made geomatics an important and sought-after topic. Geodata can be collected by, for example, remote sensing sensors on staellites and drones, airphotos and field mapping with GNSS. Remote sensing systems from laser scanning and radar to hyperspectral imaging are introduced in the programme.
Geographic information systems (GIS) make efficient management of such diverse data possible. GIS exploits common coordinate systems to allow users to manage and analyse information facilitating many different types of analysis and modelling.
We explore real-world applications of remote sensing and GIS through participation in research, internships and outreach activities.
