Entry requirements

In order to undertake this course, we ask that you have a Master’s degree and either a social work qualification and at least two years post-qualifying experience, or substantial experience working in the health and social care sector.

Course content

This celebrated professional doctorate programme offers experienced social work and social care practitioners the opportunity to:

  • Deeply analyse current practice and policy via theory and research, reflective practice seminars and an organisational observation
  • Explore what it means to work in systems and organisations through participation in a five-day group relations conference
  • Complete an original research project using innovative methods and supported by a diverse, interdisciplinary research community

This course engages with the realities of your current work experience, its emotional demands and complexities and enables you to respond to these more reflectively, effectively and with increased confidence in your role. Graduates have gone on to further develop their careers as practice leaders in advanced or specialised roles, in education and in academia.
