Course content

Eligible applicants can apply for accreditation of prior learning (120 credits), allowing direct entry to the final 60 credit part time dissertation module. Successful completion leads to the award of MSc Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting).

This programme offers flexible entry for up to five years after completing the PgDip, providing you the space to consolidate your knowledge and experience before completing the dissertation element. This supports your career development while accommodating the realities of professional practice.

In the dissertation module, you apply research principles, identifying a relevant practice issue, and designing and conducting a study within SCPHN. Learn with students from a range of professional backgrounds, supporting discussion and an understanding of wider perspectives.

Develop specialist expertise through an independent primary or secondary research project in an area of interest related to SCPHN. Working with a supervisor, you refine your topic and engage in a critical enquiry that reflects the evolving role of the health visiting practitioner and contributes to evidence based improvements in population health.
