Course content
Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology are the two areas of Psychology that, as a whole, tend to aggregate a greater number of professionals, not only but also in Portugal. In addition to the more traditional roles, such as psychological assessment and intervention (individual or group) with individuals with psychopathology and/or chronic illness, intervention with significant clients, development and implementation of health education programs (mental health), promotion of the well-being of healthy individuals, collaboration with multidisciplinary health care teams (eg adherence to therapy, preparation of surgery or complex exams), biopsychosocial research, cognitive stimulation among many others, require specialized training whose relevance is increasingly recognized.
The team of teachers specialized in Clinical/Health Psychology, as well as the Pedagogical Clinic of Psychology and the Hospital-School, where teachers and students play an active role, protocols with institutions where practical activities are developed (eg, curricular internships) are some of the guarantees of the quality of the teaching-learning process of the Master in Clinical and Health Psychology.
In addition to the academic activity, the success in this Master degree requires the development of psychological research, assessment and intervention skills. Consequently, it is intended that Master students deepen their knowledge and develop their competences in the field of Clinical Psychology and Health. Thus, the practical component of the course will allow students to train psychological assessment and intervention skills, as well as to contribute to the research that takes place in the area.
