Entry requirements

You will need: an undergraduate degree or another qualification of a satisfactory standard for postgraduate admission (eg Level 6 or equivalent, preferably in a business related course) or: a CIPD Certificate in Business Awareness and Advanced Professional Study (CBAAPS) or the Developing Business Awareness and Study Skills Award (DBASS) or equivalent, PLUS three years HR experience at advisory level or: an equivalent Level 6 qualification in a relevant subject (Management, Human Resource Management, Learning and Development) PLUS three years HR experience at advisory level. We will also consider non-graduates with a minimum of three years relevant HR experience at the appropriately senior level of responsibility. All applicants will be interviewed by the School of Business and Management and approved by the University of Wales prior to being accepted onto the programme. Direct entry onto Year 3 is possible if previous study can be mapped to the learning outcomes. Please contact the Programme Leader for further information.

Course content

This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to make an improved contribution to your current or future employing organisation. As such the course emphasises your skill development, it is demanding of your time, energy and commitment. You will be taught by tutors who are experienced HR Practitioners who are either Chartered Members or Fellows of the CIPD.

In addition to University of Wales degree, you will be able to demonstrate the knowledge requirements and, through the provision of work based learning of the activities and behaviour aspect, sufficent evidence to lead to Chartered Membership of the CIPD.

Course Content and Structure

You should be self directed and able to act autonomously by applying knowledge and skills gained to your management practice. You will creatively deal with complex human resource issues and uncertainty through using systematic models and procedures. You will communicate clearly to a range of audiences using a variety of media and be able to recognise the need for, and have the ability to implement and manage, change. You will be confident in a variety of team roles and take leadership roles where appropriate and make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations. You will make the strategic alignment between an organisation’s strategic goals and their human resource strategy.

Year 2 (Level 7):

  • Organisational Development and Design
  • Organisational Learning and Knowledge Management
  • Managing the Employment Relationship
  • Resourcing and Talent Management

Year 3 (Level 7):

  • Research
  • Internal Consultancy

Progression Routes

Upon completion of the MSc in Human Resource Management programme you will be able to act as a strategic partner within your organisation and ensure all decisions are considered from the point of view of Human Resource Management.

Additionally you will achieve the knowledge requirements to apply for Chartered Membership of the CIPD.

You will be able to lead in the development and promotion of good practice in the field of the management and development of people within your organisation and related bodies.
