Course content

Collaborating on a slate of short films and engaging in specialist activities as a Head of Department in film production, MA Filmmaking will help you enhance your creative and technical skills as an independent filmmaker.

In a learning environment nurturing technical excellence in the creation of cinematic images and sound, you’ll develop high-level skills, personal creativity and the ability to work together in a team as you create exciting cinematic visions.

The course allows you to experience the rigours of filmmaking by reflecting the realities of current film practice, within the supportive structure of our extensive Film School.

It will enhance your understanding of the professional demands of the film industry and fully equip you for a freelance career, if this is a career route you wish to take. As well as engaging in critical debate around current theoretical approaches to filmmaking practice, you’ll develop your own practical projects alongside like-minded peers.

At UCA, you'll also benefit from access to a fantastic selection of cutting-edge facilities, including digital and 16mm cameras, advanced sound recording equipment, a purpose-built film studio and high-quality post-production suites.

Our graduates have gone on to work on Oscar-winning movies and many other box office hits. As well as film, they have also worked on major TV programmes and with leading media companies, while a few alumni have also started their own companies with great success.
