Why study online with University of Aberdeen Online?

Over 1,000 students from over 100 countries join us online every year and here are some of the reasons why they study with us.

You can start your Masters with a short course

You can start with a short course and build credits towards a Masters at your own pace. This is a great option if you’ve missed the degree’s application deadline, you don’t meet the degree’s formal entry requirements, or you’d prefer to start your postgraduate studies without committing to a full degree. More than 30 postgraduate programmes are available to study through the Short Course Route.

Flexible payments

You don’t have to pay your full online degree fee upfront. You can pay for it one term at a time, spreading the cost. Each term, you decide how many credits you would like to take and pay only for those credits. This gives you control over your costs each term, as well as your workload.

You choose when and where to study

Our online courses are designed to fit around full-time work, so you can continue working and receiving an income while earning valuable qualifications. Without the need for visas or travel and accommodation costs, you have the flexibility to study with us anywhere you can access the internet.

Support when you need it

When you study online with us, you can expect a first-class support structure that means you’re never alone in your studies. You’ll have access to the same level of support as our on-campus students including IT support, careers and employment advice, disability support, full library access, health and wellbeing, and study skills.

What you can study

You can choose from over 200 online short courses and 50 postgraduate programmes, in a range of subject areas. Here are some of our most popular Masters degrees.

How to apply

Applications for our online Masters degrees are made directly through the University of Aberdeen website. You’ll be asked to provide evidence of your academic qualifications, a CV, and in some cases, references.

Entry requirements

Most of our online Masters degrees require a UK 2:1 or 2:2 honours degree (or international equivalent). Some programmes also consider relevant professional experience. If English is not your first language, you’ll need to meet our English language requirements.

If you don’t have an undergraduate degree, you may still be eligible to study with us through the Short Course Route. This allows you to demonstrate your ability to study at Masters level by completing short courses and earning credits, which can then be used towards a full Masters degree.

Start dates

Online short courses run throughout the year, and many Masters programmes offer start dates in January, June and September, giving you flexibility in when you begin your studies.

Professional short courses

If a Masters degree isn’t what you’re looking for, our online short courses are valuable learning in their own right. You can study them standalone to develop new skills in as little as 12 weeks, or use the credits you earn to build towards other qualifications, including postgraduate certificates and postgraduate diplomas.

Most courses are self-evaluating, which means you don’t need to provide formal qualifications to join. You simply decide whether you’re academically capable, then purchase and enrol when you’re ready.
