Entry requirements

Students should normally have at least an upper second class (2.1) degree from a UK university or equivalent in any subject. However professional qualifications and relevant experience will be considered where relevant.

Students with the level 7 ILM qualification in Leadership and Management will enter the programme with 40 credits. The ILM qualification has been deemed equivalent to two core modules on this programme: Leadership in Public Services and Performance Strategy and Challenge. If your ILM qualification is more than five years old please contact the admissions tutor prior to making an application.

Its content was developed with the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE), to ensure an excellent fit to the needs of local public agencies. Tutors on the programme often have extensive experience of practice in public agencies. The University offers an optional MSc qualification at no cost to local authority employers.

Information for international students

For this course we require IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in any band, which is equivalent to:

  • TOEFL: 88 overall with no less than 21 in Reading, 20 Listening, 22 Speaking and 21 in Writing
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Academic 67 with no less than 64 in all four skills
  • Cambridge English: C1 Advanced - minimum overall score of 176, with no less than 169 in any component
  • LanguageCert ESOL SELT (UKVI): B2 'Communicator' with no less than 33 in each skill
