Course content

The Construction Engineering Masters (CEM) is a part-time degree programme uniquely aligned to help tackle the widely recognised challenges facing the construction sector. Participants in the programme are equipped with the skills, tools, knowledge and inspiration to lead and deliver a positive transformation of the sector now and into the future.

The programme explores the key challenges of sector productivity, investment value in focussed research and innovation, the potential of technological advances, especially digital, and ways to incentivise collaboration and address supply chain fragmentation. The CEM overlays these challenges with the urgent need to decarbonise buildings and infrastructure in the face of the climate crisis.

The CEM programme provides a unique opportunity to galvanise the efforts of talented students, sponsoring companies and some of the brightest academics to drive meaningful change for the better in the construction sector.

Information for international students

Fluency in English and a high standard of academic writing is a pre-requisite for our programme. If your first language is not English, or you are a national of a country where English is one of several official languages, you will be asked to take a language proficiency test to show you have the necessary command of the language to get the most out of the programme (check requirements here). Applicants should be able to demonstrate proficiency in English to the following standards:

IELTS Academic: Overall band score of 7.5 (with a minimum of 7.0 in each individual component)

TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 110 (a minimum of 25 in each individual component)

C1 Advanced (formerly known as Cambridge English: Advanced): Grade A

C2 Proficiency (formerly known as Cambridge English: Proficiency): Grade A, B, or C

If you are made a conditional offer and have not already met our English language requirements, one of the conditions of admission will be that you pass a test at the correct level. Please note that sometimes there can be long waiting times to take a language test, so you should make arrangements to take a test as soon as possible.
