Derby is a great location for your studies. In the heart of England, it’s easy to get here from across the UK. By train it is only 1 hour 30 minutes from London and Manchester, 1 hour and 20 minutes from Leeds and 35 minutes from Birmingham. Derby is close to the major road networks and East Midlands airport is 30 minutes by car.
Derby is a small lively city with lost of nightlife and culture. It is also on the edge of the Peak District, so you’ll get the best of both city and country.
Our postgraduate accommodation is just a short walk from our main campus. Flamsteed Court is a small complex of two-bedroom apartments specifically for postgraduate and mature students. Each apartment has free parking, two double en-suite rooms and open plan kitchen diner and lounge.
Postgraduate students can also choose to live in our other halls of residence, alongside our undergraduate students. Flats in our halls of residence accommodate between four and eight people.
English language support
If English is not your first language, you will need an English language qualification to study at Derby. The Derby English Language Centre gives you the opportunity to develop your English language skills. We will also work closely with you to improve your academic writing and presentation skills. International students will normally require a minimum IELTS level of 4.5 and a student visa to study one of our courses.
Studying at postgraduate level can be demanding, especially if you have additional needs or caring responsibilities. We offer a full range of support to help and advise you throughout your studies, including confidential counselling, support for your mental and physical wellbeing, support for students with disabilities, caring responsibilities, autism or Asperger syndrome and more.
How to apply
You can apply directly online, and we advise that you apply at least three months before your course starts. Before you begin your application make sure that you have your qualification details including grades and dates taken. A scanned copy of your passport, your work experience and a relevant reference. You will also need to provide a personal statement, which should include your reason for applying for the course, your experience in the field and any other supporting information about your previous studies.
