Course content

Medical education is at the core of healthcare provision the world over. Ensuring the future workforce is prepared to meet the challenges of modern healthcare means we need experts in medical education to help shape practice.

At the Centre for Medical Education, founded over 40 years ago by world-renowned Professor Ronald Harden OBE, we help medical educators reach their goals, and ensure they're prepared to train the workforce of the future.

Our wide-ranging curriculum fits around you and your working life, whether you're new to teaching and training, or wish to advance existing skills and knowledge. We offer three qualifications – a Masters in Medical Education (MMEd), a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert), so you can choose which level you want to complete.

Whatever level you decide to study to, you'll start with two core modules: Learning & Teaching in Medical Education and Principles of Assessment in Medical Education. These will give you a strong overview of the core concepts of medical education, and are the perfect foundation to build your knowledge on.

You'll then choose from a range of optional modules to gain a qualification that fits you and your goals. For the masters course, you will also complete a dissertation on a topic relevant to your needs and interests.

We also offer specialist part time distance learning PGCerts for those teaching in anaesthetics, dentistry, general practice, oncology, radiology, simulation, and surgery.
