Entry requirements

Candidates must be graduates with a good first degree (equivalent of 2:1 and above) and with a research interest in translation or having professional experience in translation or another relevant field. Your personal statement needs to show an awareness of what Translation Studies is and of the content of the Translation Studies degree at the University of Edinburgh. We do not offer interpreting. You should indicate the language pairs you would like to take. Note that you can take a maximum of two languages and that you will always translate in and out of English; for example, if you have French and Chinese you will do one semester with French-English and the other one with Chinese-English, not Chinese-French. Please ensure that you upload an additional supporting document with your application stating your language preferences. You should also have native speaker competence in the relevant language(s) other than English.

Course content

The MSc in Translation Studies enhances students' practical skills in translation and provides them with an intellectual perspective on the discipline of translation studies, drawing on the expertise of highly qualified researchers based in several 5* and 5-rated units within the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures.

It offers a range of languages to work with, and students are advised to contact us in advance to find out about the availability of particular language combinations in any given year.
