No formal qualifications or experience is necessary.

As our modules are delivered in English, a high proficiency of English is required. If English isn’t your first language, your ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.

You don’t need to prove your English ability if you’re a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

Is this course for you?

This course has been designed for individuals who are looking to climb the career ladder, take the first step into a computing role or progress onto postgraduate study. You’ll investigate various theories and practices relating to cyber security, before having the opportunity to engage with the future developments in this fast-growing sector. Not only will you build on your cyber security knowledge, but you’ll also gain a strong awareness of the ethical and professional responsibilities within the area.

There’s a strong focus on various topics such as:

  • cyber security professional roles, skillset, ethical and legal responsibilities, and resources available
  • introduction to computing infrastructure and operating systems
  • threats and security in software and network systems
  • introduction to cyber security concepts, such as cryptography, penetration testing and ethical hacking
  • fields and emerging trends in cyber security, such as Cloud Computing technologies and Internet of Things
  • object-oriented analysis, design and programming techniques for secured systems
  • database design and implementation

Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a digital certificate confirming you’ve achieved 20 academic credits at postgraduate level. You will also have the opportunity to progress on to a PG Cert Cyber Security (60 credits), PG Dip Cyber Security (120 credits) or the full MSc Cyber Security (180 credits).

Please note, acceptance on to a postgraduate qualification is subject to meeting the entry requirements of your chosen programme.
