Course content

Data science is a growing sector, with the potential to change the way we live in the future by solving or offering insights into many of the largest problems of today.

On this exciting and dynamic course, you’ll learn the necessary programming and mathematics skills to apply these technologies to solve the real-world problems relevant to your existing knowledge and expertise.

You will learn to create intelligent models which can; predict future outcomes based on past data, generate artwork, or give you incredible insight into hard-to-find connections within your datasets. You will gain a deep understanding of data flows within organisations and systems, and how huge amounts of data can be engineered to produce knowledge.

As you learn you will be working with industry standard software and hardware in our specialist labs, alongside students and subject specialists from both creative and technical computing backgrounds, giving you huge opportunities to build networks with the sector-leaders of the future.

Various trips to conferences and events take place during the University year and offer further networking opportunities as well as providing a broader knowledge of the cutting edge of the data science field. There might also be the opportunity to showcase your skills and demonstrate your achievements.

Within the University we host our own events including hackathons, games jams, and industry-linked conferences, which will be free for students to attend.

This course is supported by the Office for Students, and it is possible to apply for a £10,000 scholarship to support your studies. This scholarship is intended to remove barriers for students from under-represented demographics in data science (including black, female and disabled students). More information can be found on the Office for Students website or you can contact us to chat to someone about your options.
