Course content

UL’s Master of Arts (MA) in Dance Performance is a one‑year, full‑time programme at NFQ Level 9. It supports dancers to deepen technical skill, evolve creative voice, and perform new work.

Choose your pathway in Irish Traditional Dance Performance or Contemporary Dance Performance. The programme fosters collaboration across both through shared workshops, seminars and electives.

You will undertake intensive, primarily studio‑based research in performance, choreography and creative practice, supported by Somatics, writing/documentation, and media technologies.

Your studies culminate in a Final Presentation in the summer semester.

During this programme, you will:

  • Grow your unique talents as a dance artist through hands-on studio work, learning contemporary dance, choreography, Somatics, Screendance, and creative practices.

  • Perform and collaborate with festivals, dance companies, and organisations, setting you up for careers in dance performance, choreography, or further research.

  • Explore both traditional and contemporary dance, gaining the artistic and academic skills that professionals in dance and research look for.

  • Build real-world experience and valuable connections to boost your dance career through workshops, masterclasses, and performances.
