Applicants should possess either:
  • A degree in cComputer sScience or a closely related subject, equivalent to a 2:2 UK bachelor’s degree, coupled with two years’ relevant IT professional experience; or
  • Professional work experience in IT or a related field and/or other prior qualifications, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
All applicants must provide evidence that they have an English language ability equivalent to an IELTS (academic) score of 6.5.
If you don’t have an IELTS or equivalent certificate, you can take our free online English test to assess your proficiency. You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, any of these countries.

Further your career with this specialist master’s programme in the fast-growing sector of cyber security where it is expected that there will be a significant skills shortage.

As our reliance on, and our use of, internet facilitated working continues to rapidly increase, the uninvited targeting and misuse of the technology has been increasing simultaneously. This programme has been designed to provide the students with the understanding of the tools and techniques for preventing or limiting cyber-crime. The modules are structured to equip students with the ability to investigate suspected cyber-attacks as well as navigate through the challenges in assessing and managing security risks within the modern workplace.
The programme is accredited by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, for the purposes of meeting the further learning academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.
Teaching methods and style 
This programme is designed to be studied wholly online and part-time. Students are able to peruse the course in their own time, within the weekly time frame of each seminar. Teaching is delivered through our state-of-the-art vVirtual lLearning eEnvironment (VLE), which provides students with access to all resources required for interactive study online. On this platform you will be encouraged to work collaboratively with classmates and actively read around your topic through our comprehensive library of eBooks and journals.  
Methods of assessment 
Assessment is exclusively through online assignments rather than examinations. You will be assessed through a range of activities, including written assignments, discussion forum participation, group work and journal entries.

As a graduate with specialist knowledge of technologies and techniques that reinforce secure computer systems, you will be equipped take up rewarding careers within the ever-growing cyber security sector.
Upon successful completion of this programme such career paths may include System Penetration Tester, Chief Information Officer or Information Security Consultant.

Full tuition fee – £16,065 (2023/2024 academic year)

The tuition fee is fully inclusive of all costs: teaching materials, core textbooks, assessments and resits. If you live in England, you may be eligible for a postgraduate loan to cover some of the programme cost. If you are not eligible for a student loan, you will be offered a simple monthly payment plan to spread the cost of your tuition over the duration of your studies.  
Scholarships and Discounts
  • An Executive Scholarship of 20% is available for our remaining intakes in the 2024 academic year.
  • 10% discount for University of Liverpool alumni.
  • You will receive a 5% discount if you choose to pay the full tuition fee upfront.

  • A UK Scholarship of 10% is available for students residing in the United Kingdom.

To achieve a full master’s degree, you will be required to complete 180 credits. This programme is also available as a postgraduate certificate (PG Cert) which amounts to 60 credits and a postgraduate diploma (PG Dip) which amounts to 120 credits. Students who complete the PG Cert and PG Dip will have the opportunity to progress to a full master’s degree.
