About University of Northampton

Here at Northampton, our mission is to Transform Lives and Inspire Change. We aim to ensure your time at university is fulfilling, satisfying and enjoyable, by providing all you need for you to achieve your potential.

We have exciting industry-relevant courses, with industry partnerships and a dedication to employability that will help you secure the graduate role you aspire to. For that reason, many of our Masters programmes and all Business, Computing, Engineering and Joint Honours Bachelor programmes offer the option to take up to a 12 month work placement.

I was offered a place by two other universities but chose Northampton because of the placement year.

Our excellent and passionate lecturers make your learning meaningful by combining traditional classroom teaching with online learning and group work. This combination of learning is much closer to the ‘real world’ of work beyond graduation.

We have a unique commitment to social innovation; this means our staff and our students work hard to have a positive effect on the world. We believe that everybody has the power to make a positive impact on society – small changes that add up to make the world a better place.

If you are considering starting with us in 2019 the best way to discover more would be to attend one of our open days. This would give you the opportunity to look around our brand new £330m Waterside Campus, located in a prime town centre location. Book onto one of our open days to discover more.

Student life

Northampton has many things to offer. We have high energy sports, idyllic rural walks, nationally acclaimed music venues, and historic theatres. There are cute cafes, independent restaurants and friendly pubs. We have regular fairs and street markets and there’s the annual Food and Drink Awards too.

We are home to premiership rugby, motor racing and a white-water rafting centre. The countryside of Northamptonshire offers a network of cycle ways and canals, historic homes and gardens. Our brand new student union – The Platform based right in the centre of town is a bright airy contemporary venue with café bar and nightclub along with many other services including our student letting agency and part-time employment agency. We have multiplex cinemas, plus the more intimate Forum Cinema, which screens art-house films from around the world and the Northampton Filmhouse which screens blockbuster and cult films.

There’s plenty of shopping, with all the high street brands and some inspiring independent boutiques. Nearby, we have a number of out-of-town retail parks and shopping villages offering convenient shopping locations throughout the county.
Northampton is many things, but it’s definitely not boring.
