Course content

This MRes provides the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for research in industrial biochemistry. You'll gain experience of laboratory techniques used in the biopharma, healthcare and food industries.

The course consists of 60 credits of assessed taught modules, supplemented by research tutorials and 120 credits of assessed research.

In the taught modules, you will learn about biomolecular structure, properties and function. Entrepreneurial modules introduce you to a variety of creative problem solving techniques. You'll learn how to apply these techniques to develop, evaluate, and apply your ideas.

  • You will complete a 2-month group mini-research project. This can be done in The National Centre for Macromolecular Hydrodynamics which is based on campus.
  • There is also a 4-month research project which may take place on an industry placement or at the university.

The course is taught in conjunction with leading biopharma, healthcare and food companies. Examples include AstraZeneca, Arecor, Sanofi, GSK, Upperton Laboratories and Britvic.
