Course content

Our MA Film and Creative Enterprise allows you to combine your passion for the arts with studies in law, management and entrepreneurship.

On MA Film and Creative Enterprise, you’ll learn filmmaking skills, explore debates about style and meaning, and develop your understanding of industry trends and practices.

This MA programme is a collaboration, taught by three world-renowned schools at the University of Reading – the School of Arts and Communication Design, Henley Business School and the School of Law. You will be based in the department of Film, Theatre and Television, situated at the heart of the University’s Whiteknights campus.

Reading is one of the fastest-developing film hubs in the UK, with the construction of a major film studio just a few miles from our campus on the university’s Thames Valley Science Park. Reading is also only 25 minutes from London Paddington by train, meaning students can join regular theatre, cinema and film festival trips.

MA Film and Creative Enterprise ideal for those looking to develop a career as a filmmaker, creative producer, film programmer, or in the creative industries more generally. From the start of your studies you will engage with key critical ideas about film and television, while modules on entrepreneurship and management prepare you for professional work in this dynamic and creative field. To complete your studies, you will either write a dissertation or produce a short film.

The facilities and culture at our Minghella Studios are ideally suited to the MA Film and Creative Enterprise. Here you will be encouraged to collaborate, explore and experiment. You will learn from prestigious scholars as well as experienced industry professionals.

As a MA Film and Creative Enterprise student, you will also benefit from working alongside students in Business and Law, opening up even more opportunities for you to build connections, and to enrich your understanding of the creative industries.
