Course content
The MA Creative Writing is an intensive, practice-led programme designed to help you develop original, publishable work across a range of contemporary genres. Available as a Master’s (180 credits) or Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits), the course combines creative production with critical reflection and professional development.
You will explore areas such as genre fiction, including fantasy, crime and horror, dark and transgressive writing, short fiction and novel writing. Through workshops, guided writing time and contextual study, you will refine your voice, strengthen technical mastery and develop a substantial creative manuscript.
Teaching is delivered by established, published writers who support you in building a professional portfolio of creative work and reflective writing. Small group workshops provide structured, constructive feedback, while independent projects encourage artistic maturity and ambition.
The programme places strong emphasis on preparing you for the publishing and creative industries. Opportunities such as Roehampton’s in-house Fincham Press offer insight into the publishing process, while engagement with contemporary debates, including the role of AI in creative practice, supports your development as a critically aware writer.
Graduates progress into careers in writing, publishing, journalism, copywriting, arts management and related creative fields, equipped with both creative confidence and professional skills.
