Course content

On this double award MSc in Global Marine Resource Management, you will undertake cross-disciplinary study in a multinational setting, studying at both the University of Southampton, and at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

In your first semester you will study at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS), one of the world’s largest centres devoted to research and teaching in Earth and marine science, and host to the University of Southampton’s School of Ocean and Earth Science.
The international nature of the master’s programme allows you to work alongside experts in the field who have varied perspectives, gain access to state-of-the-art facilities and exciting opportunities and learning environments in two distinctive global marine settings.
You will be introduced to the multi-disciplinary sphere of marine science, including physical, chemical, biological oceanography and marine geology and explore the potential of and sustainable utilisation of marine resources.
You will have the opportunity to:
1. Get hands-on training on board our research vessels as you explore the processes operating on marine ecosystems
2. Build a highly competitive, cross-national skillset as you study in the UK and Hong Kong
3. Learn to make scientific, evidence-based recommendations to the public, businesses, and governmental stakeholders
Upon graduating, you’ll be prepared for a career within private entities, NGOs, and governmental agencies, or for further studies.
