Course content
If you have an interest in utilising computer technology to apply geographical knowledge in order to address key societal and environmental issues then our MSc in Applied Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing (AGISRS) is tailor made for you. You will develop the understanding and technical skills required to analyse geospatial data in order to address real-world problems in diverse areas such as public health, food security or to improving our understanding of the carbon cycle. Combining cutting edge research in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and satellite remote sensing, this innovative master’s degree can open the door to successful careers in environmental consultancy firms, software companies, government research institutes and post-graduate research degrees to help you fulfil your ambition.
An important feature of the MSc is that you will have the opportunity to learn how to programme in both IDL (applicable to remote sensing) and Python (applicable to GIS) to enable you to automate big GIS and remote sensing tasks. Such programming skills are in high demand by employers, with several of our students letting us know that the jobs they secured after their degree or even prior to graduation had required these programming skills.
