Course content

The MA Textile Design programme will encourage you to be experimental, stretch the boundaries and focus on taking your textile design skills to the next level. You’ll gain the contextual knowledge and critical research skills that will underpin your work through core topics such as sketchbook development, visual and market research and considerations of sustainability.

Taught by industry-experienced tutors and supported by our dedicated technicians, you’ll learn techniques such as print, embroidery and Devore. The facilities and equipment you’ll use include a Mimaki digital printer, computerised Shima Seiki knitting machines across three gauges, a variety of single and doublebed Dubied knitting machines, linkers and manual knitting machines, a state-of-the-art jacquard loom, and a variety of computerised AVL dobby looms.

This programme includes extensive industry exposure through guest lectures, live project briefs and visits to trade events. Staff will work closely with you to help develop your individual strengths and enhance your employability. Using our industry connections, we can facilitate internship opportunities with leading fashion and textile companies and the opportunity to showcase your work in Winchester and London. You’ll graduate with a portfolio that demonstrates your talents and accomplishments, as well as industry knowledge.
