Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a Bachelors degree (UK 2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification from a recognised British or overseas university in a related subject with significant exposure of mathematical subjects: (economics, finance, mathematics, computer science or engineering subjects).

Applicants holding a Bachelor’s degree with a 2:2 result in a relevant subject (or overseas equivalent) may still be considered if they also hold a minimum of three years full time graduate work experience in an analytical and data-intensive field. Higher level professional qualifications may also be accepted.

Course content

Surrey Business School’s Business Analytics MSc is dedicated to producing creative and knowledgeable business analysts with the ability to convert big data to actionable insight in business.

With input from industry experts in class and on-site, you will engage with real-world business problems from leading contemporary organisations.

Artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data; new technologies and ways of working are changing the way we make decisions. This course will take your career to the next level and develop your ability to confidently make high impact businesses decisions that are driven by data. The programme focuses on two key areas: analysing business data, and solving business challenges analytically.

This course includes a placement module as a final project, where you’ll take what you’ve learnt and apply it in a relevant organisation. Optional modules allow you to further specialise in areas such as the economic, managerial or finance aspects of the subject. This course has two main pathways: operations or finance. Whichever pathway you choose, you’ll be well placed to take advantage of a placement with companies in the sector.

Students have the opportunity to use artificial intelligence to improve a chess game, game theory to create games, and computational intelligence with genetic algorithms.

You will also learn the power of visualisation from graphs, discover virtual reality, gaining insights from data mining and machine learning.
