Safe, welcoming campus
Sussex offers a welcoming, safe and supportive campus community surrounded by the tranquility of the South Downs National Park. Our green, leafy campus is known for the beauty of its open spaces – with lawns, woodland and wildflower meadows to relax in. You can take a break from your studies and step directly into the open space of the stunning countryside.
As well as being beautiful, our campus is like a large village, with everything you need for day-to-day life. This includes a bank, post office, GP surgery, dentist, sport centre, supermarket and pharmacy as well as numerous cafés, bars and restaurants, and a weekly food market.
A sunny seaside city famous for its sense of inclusivity – there can be few better places to be a student than Brighton. Dynamic and cosmopolitan, it's a place where you can express yourself and be who you want to be, with the city centre just a few minutes’ train ride from our campus. It offers everything students could want for an enjoyable university experience – culture, entertainment and freedom of expression.
Our researchers are asking the questions that help to shape the world, and this is who you’ll be learning from. Their work impacts policy and practice for businesses, NGOs and governments.
More than 75% of our research activity was categorised as world-leading or internationally excellent in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014). And we’re especially proud to have been ranked as best in the world for development studies for the fifth year running, in the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject.
At the University of Sussex we have a thriving international community. Our reputation for academic excellence attracts teachers, researchers and students from around the world.
Broad curriculum, flexible courses
From Art History to Robotics, Applied Linguistics to International Management, Philosophy to Human Rights, we have stimulating Masters courses – and world-respected academics – across the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities.
All our courses are supported online, with real-time lecture access and recorded teaching sessions, module reading sessions and supporting materials available through the University’s virtual learning environment.
In addition to full- and part-time on-campus study options, we also have some Masters-level courses which are taught 100% online, allowing you to study at a time, pace and place that suits you.
Funding your studies
We have a range of Masters scholarships and awards available. These can relate to specific courses, where you live or your level of achievement. Thanks to the generous support of our alumni, partner organisations and friends of the University, we have many philanthropic scholarships to offer you.
For 2021 these include 100 Chancellor's Masters Scholarships for graduates with a First Class UK Bachelors degree, 60 Chancellor’s International and EU Scholarships and fourteen £10,000 scholarships for people from groups currently underrepresented in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

Education for life
We’ll support you to build a personal and professional life that is enriching, satisfying and rewarding by helping you develop the deeper knowledge, skills and confidence you need to pursue your personal goals and career choices.
Our Careers and Employability Centre team offer advice, information, workshops, events and work experience opportunities to support you throughout your time at Sussex, and for three years after you graduate. We love entrepreneurs – which is why there’s lots of support for students wishing to start or grow their own business or social enterprise.
As a graduate of Sussex you will be welcomed into our 170,000-strong Alumni Network.
Welcoming international community
We’ll welcome you into our friendly community of academics and students of over 150 nationalities. With internationalism at our heart, you can be confident you'll be joining a warm and connected academic community.
Situated on the sunny south coast, and just a 9-minute train ride from campus, the iconic city of Brighton is only one hour from London with excellent travel links to both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
As teaching at Sussex is in English, you’ll need to be sufficiently fluent in English. But don’t worry if you don’t have the language skills yet, we offer English language and academic preparation courses.
Home from home
We’ll help you find a place you can call home. We have a wide range of on-and off-campus accommodation. Many of our flats and houses have ensuite bathrooms and we also have flats which are especially suitable for students with families, or for students with disabilities.
We offer guaranteed University-managed housing for full-time international Masters students who apply before the published deadline. If you are a UK Masters student, or are an international student studying on a part-time course, our Housing Services team is on hand to provide you with advice and assistance to find private accommodation locally.
How to apply
We are looking for ambitious, enthusiastic and motivated students. You’ll have the passion to succeed, the independence to take on your own projects, and the ability to go above and beyond.
We look forward to hearing from you.
