You will find exceptional facilities, equipment and software here at Cranfield, including a fully functional airport - the only university with its own airport!
Many facilities at Cranfield are near to, or industrial scale and include: cabin evacuation laboratories; crash testing equipment; oil and gas engineering rigs; icing tunnels; off-road testing facility; soil dynamics laboratory; flying and welding laboratories; a £1 million flight deck simulator; body armour test house; biomechanics laboratories; an experimental farm - the list goes on! We even have our own sewage treatment works.
We offer excellent computer facilities with an extensive network of workstations available in open access areas across campus. You will have access to leading software applications, collaboration and learning tools, as well as high-performance research computing facilities and specialist support if you are undertaking larger scale projects. Our information and library services include over 14,000 electronic journal titles and over 200 databases.
On our Bedfordshire campus we have many different types of accommodation for single students, couples and families with different styles and facilities to suit your preferences. Accommodation is applied for when you receive your offer. As a rural campus there is no inner-city commuting, and living on campus means being just minutes away from lectures, facilities and free parking.
Students who choose to live off-campus do so in the nearby village of Cranfield, the historic town of Bedford or the UK's fastest growing and vibrant city of Milton Keynes.
Students at our Shrivenham campus live in rented accommodation in nearby Watchfield, Farringdon or the large town of Swindon.
Our Bedfordshire location gives you the best of both worlds – a spacious, quiet and mature study environment with the advantage of being conveniently close to many towns, cities and facilities.
We have everything you need on-campus for day-to-day life and studying, but when you want to venture off-campus, here are some example distances for our Bedfordshire campus:
- Milton Keynes – by car - approximately 15mins
- Bedford – by car - approximately 20mins
- Luton airport – by car - approximately 30mins
- Central London – by train from Bedford or Milton Keynes – approximately 40min train time
- Birmingham – by train from Milton Keynes – approximately 45min train time
Our Shrivenham location is located just 20 minutes by car or bus from the large town of Swindon. Bath, Cheltenham, Bristol and Oxford are all within an hour’s drive and London is less than two hours away.
We are a truly international university, with over half of our learners coming from outside the UK representing more than 110 countries. This means you will be exposed to many different cultures, attitudes and experiences during your time here.
Over half study part-time whilst in employment giving you the opportunity to share ideas and learn from those already in industry, and providing a stimulating experience that mirrors the global workplace.
