Course content
Leed's Conservatoire's MA in Musical Direction is designed to prepare highly-skilled musicians to embark upon a career as a musical director.
With tailored one-to-one classes, students will hone their musicianship and be exposed to a wide range of working practices, working alongside key practitioners, companies and industry professionals from across the region.
Students will learn the fundamental skills necessary to work professionally as a musical director in the theatre industry. Practical skills include keyboard skills (including programming), conducting, song analysis, scoring and arranging. You will work with singers, learn audition/accompaniment techniques, build repertoire, and gain a strong understanding of vocal technique and acting through song. You will study rehearsal techniques to work successfully with actors, singers and musicians.
Students on the MA Musical Direction course will work with students from the other Theatre MAs, generating new work in a collaborative, student-led environment. You will find and hone your individual creative voice as an artist and practitioner through this way of working. Throughout the year there will be several opportunities for these developing works to be performed in a range of contexts and environments.
