Course content

Our MSc Business Analytics will equip you with the skills that employers value by combining the rigorous modelling and consulting skills needed to understand, manage and communicate useful insights from big data – often referred to as the oil of the 21 century.

The programme is ideal for graduates interested in careers as management consultants, business analysts, policy analysts, marketing researchers, operations researchers, and data scientists. You will develop skills in managerial decision making, managing big data, delivering consultancy projects and using analytics to understand customers and improve business operations.

Our alumni are highly employable and are equipped to consult with organisations and governments to help them make informed strategic business or policy decisions. Taught modules are delivered by our group of internationally recognised management scientists who are actively working with business, government and non-profit organisations to tackle routine, strategic or policy problems.

A number of industrial collaborators contribute to our curriculum delivering workshops and guest talks. They also ensure that the focus of our taught modules is of both academic and practical relevance. Our collaborators include practitioners from companies such as TUI, npower, BT, IBM, SAS, British Airways and UK government departments through the Government Operational Research Service. In addition, SAS sponsor a student prize.

During the summer, you will undertake a supervised consulting or research project. Recent consulting projects have been with companies including tui, npower, Dstl and Defra. This will give you the opportunity to apply powerful tools such as data mining, forecasting, optimisation, simulation and decision analysis to a particular area of business or policy, equipping you with skills highly prized by employers.
