Course content

Our MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology degree is designed and delivered to prepare you for career pathways in sport and exercise psychology.

The programme moves beyond the fundamentals of psychological science by focusing on significant areas in the applied contexts of sport and exercise while providing a critical understanding of sport and exercise psychology research and practice.

Accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) via Accreditation Through Partnership, the programme is designed to prepare students for practitioner training and doctoral research in sport and exercise psychology.

The programme is supported by a large group of sport and exercise psychology staff who conduct cutting-edge research in their areas of expertise. Several also work as practitioners with national governing bodies, individual athletes and professional teams. Specific areas of expertise include: resilience; social identity; mental health and wellbeing; the coach-athlete relationship; eating disorders in sport; stress and performance; leadership and organisational culture, and motivational processes.

The programme targets significant areas of sport and exercise psychology packaged in the following modules: Qualitative Research; Quantitative Research; Self-Regulation in Sport and Exercise; Performance Psychology and Management; Psychology of Exercise for Clinical Populations; Mental Health in Sport and Exercise; Professional Practice in Sport Psychology; Social Processes in Sport; and the Research Project.
