Outstanding Reputation

Loughborough University's reputation for expertise in Communication and Media Studies is of international acclaim, and is ranked in the UK Top 10 and World Top 50 for this subject area in the latest league tables.

media

The media and creative industries have become an increasingly important part of contemporary social and cultural life, and of the modern economy. Our London campus is located at the heart of a newly emerging ‘hub’ for digital media, broadcasting, creative arts and cultural innovation.

Programmes in this area will give students a professional understanding of how the media and creative industries work, along with critical insights into the broader economic, social and political issues at stake. This Institute will be dedicated to the principal media and creative industries; music, the press, radio, film, television, electronic games, literature, museums, drama, dance, art, tourism, journalism, and the internet.

Our Programmes

Our Media and Creative Industries programmes will equip you with the knowledge and skills to work in a variety of communication roles within public, private or third-sector companies, ranging from sport, gaming, and technology to press, policy and community-led initiatives.

Industry Exposure

Based in the former Olympic International Broadcast Centre, our neighbours include BT Sport broadcasting company, owners of Europe's largest Sport TV studios. Along with providing a strong theoretical foundation, these connections mean that the programme can also offer unique opportunities for students to gain industry exposure and insights into the practical aspects of the media industry.

Research

Research is a crucial part of our work and underpins our ability to deliver teaching at the forefront of our discipline. Research students will have the opportunity to work with top researchers and industry leaders, and gain first-hand experience of real life problem solving. Presentation of research findings at key national and international conferences will be an important part of students’ training. You will engage with research communities across the globe and will become be part of a talented research community.

The Institute for Media and Creative Industries has four key research areas:

  1. Infrastructure
  2. Labour
  3. Output
  4. Audiences
