Iconic Location

Loughborough University London is ideally located for students with an interest in both sport and business. Our campus is situated on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and sits amongst numerous world-class sporting venues designed for the London 2012 Olympic Games. In addition, the Park is quickly becoming the venue of choice for a growing number of sports organisations and events, including the 2015 Rugby World Cup and 2017 IAAF World Championships.

Adjacent to our campus you will find one of our many industry collaborators, BT Sport which actively runs three TV studios, a control centre, 20 edit suites and an audience holding area.

Our Programmes

The programmes featured at the Institute for Sport Business are designed to meet the needs of students looking to understand the operating environment of the many sports industries. Each programme combines learning and skills development to provide students with the skills required to lead and manage sport businesses and organisations across the commercial, not-for-profit and public sectors.

Research

The Institute for Sport Business is an interdisciplinary research group incorporating internationally recognised researchers interested in the business of sport. The Institute seeks to examine the rapid growth in the business of sport and its accompanying impacts in an era of significant social, economic and technological change.

The major research problem that the Institute is seeking to address is what impacts the hyper-commodification of sport has on society. In addressing this problem the Institute is committed to retaining a focus on the three key impact areas; leadership and change, innovation and enterprise, and social responsibility.

The Institute has four research programmes:

  1. Sport Integrity and Governance
  2. Leadership, Innovation and Culture in Sport
  3. New Sport Digital and Media technologies, and
  4. Sport for Development

Each theme addresses different aspects of the problem by drawing on interdisciplinary research.

In furthering this focus the Institute has an important geographical location in London with outstanding links with government and industry that strengthen its research opportunities.

Studentships may become available throughout the year, please keep checking our website for details.
