Entry requirements
Portfolio
Applicants applying for Studio Courses in NCAD are expected to present a portfolio as part of their application. It should be uploaded to the NCAD online portal by the first Friday in February. Include your notebooks, worksheets, sketchpads as well as as a selection of your art and design work that best showcases your creativity and skills.
Portfolios are scored out of 1000 and scores are sent to you in late April. Offers are made in August based on the portfolio score and the student meeting the minimum entry requirements.
Essential Documents
EU, UK, and EFTA student apply via CAO.ie by 1 February. The minimum entry requirement for Irish students is a Leaving Certificate with 2 x H5 and 4 x O6/H7 including Irish and English among those subject. An Irish exemption is accepted. The requirement for other final exams is comparable e.g., 2 A Levels and 4 GCSEs. Contact us to check at admissions@ncad.ie
If you are an international student you must supply transcripts of your high school final exams, or the equivalent and Proof of English Language Proficiency if you were not educated through the medium of English

Course content
First Year Studies at NCAD gives you the solid foundation that you require for entry into the variety of creative paths of study offered by the college. All students are provided with a studio space.
First Year Studies is a common entry course that leads our students to studying any one of the fourteen different studio specialisms available in NCAD, including within:
School of Fine Art: Paint, Print, Sculpture , Media, Textile Art & Artefact and Ceramics & Glass (Applied Art)
School of Design: Graphics, Illustration, Moving Image Design, Fashion Design, Textile Surface Design, Jewellery & Objects, Product Design and Interaction Design.
All these specialisms can also be studied as a Joint Honours Degree with Education or as a Studio specialism with Visual Culture.
