Entry requirements

Normally a 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent. Native-level writers of English must have French, German, Italian and/or Spanish language as a major component. Native-level writers of French, German, Italian or Spanish must have English language as a major component. We will also consider your application on an individual basis if you have: a 2:2 honours degree, a degree in a non-languages subject and/or professional translating experience.

Course content

The Professional Translation for European Languages MA combines practical training and theory to give you the skills and knowledge to become a professional translator.

You'll work between English and one/two of the following languages:

  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Spanish.

The professional translation focus is a distinctive feature of this course. It incorporates:

  • translation theory
  • practice
  • professionalism in translation.

International Students

To study this course you need to meet the following English Language requirements: Direct Entry: IELTS 7.0 overall (with at least 6.5 in speaking and writing, and 6.0 in reading and listening).

Pre-sessional English Language courses are not accepted as an alternative entry to this course. Our typical English Language requirements are listed as IELTS scores but we also accept a wide range of English Language tests.
