Outdoor Leader Semester
Entry requirements
The normal minimum age requirement for this course is 17+ but any participants that have completed GCSEs are encouraged to apply and will be considered for the course.

Course content
If you’re interested in working in the outdoor education industry, then this is the programme for you! This 65-day course is geared towards gaining both the certifications and the technical and soft skills that you need to kick start your career as an Outdoor Leader. Earn up to seven internationally-recognised certifications including: NAUI Scuba Diver, Lifeguarding, Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, Recreational Rappel Operator, Whitewater Raft Guide and Whitewater Rescue Technician. Finish your course by completing an in-depth study of the Outward Bound Costa Rica’s educational model. This course is also perfect for anyone who loves being outdoors and doing as many adventure activities as possible!

Fees and funding
The course cost includes all in-country transportation, accommodation, food, snacks, 24/7 Instructors, adventure activities, equipment for activities and certifications. Flights and spending money are not included. OBCR does offer a small number of partial scholarships and there are international scholarships available.

National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) - CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification, gained at our Rainforest Base in the Costa Rican Central Valley National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) - Wilderness First Responder certification, gained at our Rainforest Base in the Costa Rican Central Valley NAUI Worldwide- Basic or Advanced Scuba Diver certification, gained in Bocas del Toro, Panama American Red Cross- Lifeguarding with Waterfront Module, gained at a local pool and a beach on the Pacific coast International Rafting Federation- Whitewater Raft Guide License Level 2 or Level 3, gained on the Pacuare and Sarapiquí rivers Rescue 3 International- Whitewater Rescue Technician, gained on the Pacuare and Sarapiquí rivers Rescue 3 International- Recreational Rappel Operator, gained at our Rainforest Base in the Costa Rican Central Valley
